About Chanteloube

The Association du Centre d’Études de Chanteloube (A.C.E.C.), is Songtsen's department dedicated to the practice and study of Tibetan Buddhism. Founded in February 1980, it continues to provide facilities for students to discover the Buddhist teachings. Chanteloube is located in Dordogne, France, in the heart of the Aquitaine region.
Chanteloube provides resources for practise and study where individuals can undertake courses in Buddhist philosophy, and where they can receive guidance in meditation practice. Programmes at Chanteloube have included teachers from different traditions of Tibetan Buddhism (see visits from eminent teachers).
A small group of staff and volunteers manages the centre's activities. The administrative members organize Songtsen’s programmes, coordinate visits of teachers and oversee the operation of the three-year retreats.
The centre’s main activities include:
- Bringing knowledge of the living tradition of Tibetan Buddhism to a Western public
- Organizing visits to Europe of eminent Buddhist teachers
- Organizing lectures, conferences, seminars, and short or long study courses
- Providing retreat facilities for in-depth study of Buddhist teachings and an environment for meditation and contemplation, including traditional three-year retreats.
A note about Chanteloube
Chanteloube Study Centre is not organized as a community. Apart from the three-year retreats, all our members work and live autonomously. We gather for teachings, group practices and other activities. At present, we regret to say that we have practically no accommodation for guests and visitors. Please also note that our office team is small, so we request you to contact them only if you cannot find the information you need in these pages.
