Tibetan calendar

Favourable & unfavourable days for cutting hair & nails

The following calendar is based on the Tibetan medical and astrological system. It advises which days are favourable and unfavourable for cutting the hair and nails, in relation to the circulation of energy in the body throughout the lunar cycle. Cutting the hair and / or nails on unfavourable days will lead to a loss of vitality, whereas cutting ones hair / nails on favourable days will result in an increase of energy. As ones hair and nails contain vital energy, it is also believed that they should be treated appropriately, not discarded in the garbage or in places where others can walk on them, which would affect one's lungta (energy or confidence). Traditionally, hair and nails are kept in a clean place and then burned while reciting particular prayers. Please check Chanteloube's Tibetan calendar to determine the Tibetan day in relation to the Western calendar.

Summary of favourable days: 8, 9, 10, 11, 26, 27; Unfavourable days: 1, 2, 7, 12, 16, 18, 21, 25, 28, 29

Please refer to Chanteloube's Tibetan calendar to determine the Tibetan day in relation to the Western calendar.
